Practice Area 04
Workforce Development & Clinical Education
Competency frameworks, onboarding, mentoring structures, and continuing education — including sonography and diagnostic-imaging education.

Organizational Context
Training happens. Demonstrable competency is the harder problem.
Most healthcare organizations deliver education. Fewer can show, for a given clinician on a given day, which competencies have been assessed, by whom, against what standard, and when they were last confirmed. That gap becomes visible during accreditation, after an adverse event, or when an experienced staff member leaves.
Workforce development work builds the structure underneath education: what competency means for each role, how it is evidenced, how it is maintained, and who is accountable for it.
01
Orientation without a competency endpoint
New staff complete onboarding without a defined standard they are assessed against at the end of it.
02
Education recorded as attendance
Completion is documented; capability is not, so the record cannot answer the question that matters.
03
Mentoring that depends on individuals
Development quality varies by preceptor because the mentoring structure is informal and undocumented.
04
Low-frequency, high-consequence skills decaying quietly
Skills used rarely are assumed to be retained, and there is no refresh cadence to confirm it.
05
Knowledge leaving with people
Expertise held by senior staff has never been written into training material, so departure removes capability.

Sonography & Diagnostic Education
Imaging education is a distinct strength of the firm. Sonography competency is difficult to evidence because image acquisition, interpretation, and reporting are separate skills that decay at different rates.
Engagements in this area cover protocol standardization, image-quality review structures, competency frameworks specific to acquisition and interpretation, mentoring design for trainees, and continuing-education structures for established staff.
How CIG Supports Organizations
What an engagement in this area produces.
Every instrument is written so an internal educator can run and maintain it after close.
Role-based competency frameworks
Defined competencies per role, with assessment method, standard, assessor, and re-confirmation interval.
Onboarding and orientation design
Structured onboarding with a competency endpoint rather than a completion date.
Mentoring and preceptor structure
Preceptor expectations, documentation, and calibration so development quality does not depend on the individual.
Continuing education architecture
A cadence that prioritizes low-frequency high-consequence skills instead of whatever is easiest to schedule.
Educator capability building
Development of internal educators, including assessment technique, documentation, and program maintenance.
Representative Forms of Engagement
How this work is typically scoped.
- Competency framework developmentDesign of role-based competency structures for a defined clinical group.
- Education program assessmentReview of existing education and competency documentation against organizational obligations.
- Onboarding redesignRestructuring of orientation for a department or discipline.
- Imaging education engagementSonography or diagnostic-imaging protocol, competency, and mentoring structures.
- Preceptor and educator developmentStructured development of the internal staff who deliver education.
- Program accreditation supportDocumentation and structural preparation for accreditation or program review.
These are the forms an engagement commonly takes. They describe scope types, not completed projects, and every engagement is scoped to the organization’s own circumstances.
The CIG Framework
Education work is Implementation-weighted: the deliverables are instruments internal educators run themselves after the engagement closes.
